Petty apartheid is a term which originally referred to the more apparently trivial aspects of apartheid in South Africa, but that is now also used to refer to segregation in other countries as well. It was usually held to mean those measures short of directly affecting employment, residence or voting rights, but also has the meaning of severe disenfranchisement, for example in the United Kingdom.
